Lure: Burgers at a Fishbar?

“I’m a fish out of water without you.”  Unknown

I’ve been to Lure Fishbar plenty of times over the past few years and generally enjoyed my meals there.  This is partly because the food is always good but – I must admit – also because it’s a fairly trendy place set smack dab in the middle of very trendy SoHo.   Never, ever did I consider having a burger there.  Because, you know, Lure is a fish place – it’s baked right into the name.  Then the Thrillist list of top 5 NYC burgers came out and – what do you know? – there was the Lure Style Burger in the #3 position.  So I clearly had to make my way back there and check it out.

The awesome waitress at Lure let Husband and I know that – in addition to the Lure Style Burger – there is an even more awesome off-menu burger available.  So we ordered one Lure Style Burger and one super-secret Bash Burger.  The former is served on a brioche bun and comes with “special sauce”, lettuce, pickle, American cheese, tomato and is topped off with big  fat onion rings.  Of the two, I found the Lure Burger to be the more home style and traditional.

However (just as the waitress said) the Bash Burger really was the better of the two burgers, featuring caramelized onions, American cheese, pickles and served atop a sesame seed bun.  It  This one was just the juicier and tastier of the two.  And, yes, we gave the waitress a sizeable tip for giving us the 411.

I’m not sure I’m on board with the “Top 5 in NYC” designation, but either of these are worth a try if you happen to be Lure and fancy being a landlubber.  WARNING:  there have been rumors that Lure will soon become the victim of a crazy rent increase – you may want to get over there sooner rather than later.

Price:  Lure Style Burger, $19.00; Bash Burger, $18.00

Destination Burger:  Thrillist says “yes,” I say “not really.”

Fat/Calorie Worthy:  Sure.
